Destination: Grand Canyon

In Part 2 of John comes to Phoenix, Nick and Kaylyn take John to the Grand Canyon for what would become a stinkin' crazy adventure!

The first full day that John was in Arizona, Nick and Kaylyn woke up him up bright and early in the morning to drive the 3.5 hours to the Grand Canyon. Upon arrival, we sat in a long line of traffic waiting to get into the park. Upon driving into the park, the rain started coming down. By the time the crew found a parking spot, thunder had just started to roll. We decided to quickly gather our belongings and make it to the next Visitor's Center before the rains came.

...We made the wrong decision. As we started walking through the wooded area along the rim, the thunder began to roll, lightning began to strike, and then the rains came. By the time we reached a small Visitor's Center, we were totally soaked: shoes sopping, hair soaked, and raincoats dripping with water. We sat out on the porch eating our lunch, and poor John was so disappointed, wondering if this was how the Grand Canyon was going to look the whole time: cloudy and dismal.

Thankfully, after about 1/2 hour of waiting around, the clouds cleared and we were able to head outside for some much clearer views of the Canyon. Within the hour, we were cruising, heading out to the far point of the Canyon where the views of the Colorado River are stunning.

And John was happy. By the time we finished riding the shuttle to the various viewpoints, we could hear the thunder rolling in, the lightning began to strike, and as we waited for the shuttle, the rain started coming down.
