Big Sur Camping Trip

Back in August, Nick and I were desperate to get out of the house and have a change of scenery. We were so blessed to be able to camp in Big Sur, California. We got there on a Friday night right before it was getting dark. After falling asleep on that uncomfortable hard ground, I woke up at 1:00 a.m. to the sound of thunder and lightning. I felt a pang of fear, as we had never slept in our tent in the rain. We thankfully only had a few sprinkles, but it was that bout of lightning that caused the wildfires all over California. I fell back asleep after the storm was over and then woke up again at 4 a.m. when half of our tent fell over on me. Needless to say, that was the last time we used that ten and promptly got a new one.

The next morning, we were up bright and early and ready to get to see the sights! We stopped at an overlook to see McWay Falls, which is just as beautiful as all of the pictures make it out to be.

We also explored the campground, where there was a cold creek and some new goat friends! We tried heading to Pfeiffer Beach, but unfortunately, it was already full, so we headed to Big Sur State park. We enjoyed the river running through, but then went on the worst hike ever (lol) in the hot sun, completely uphill, and the view was so not worth it at home.

After a long, hot hike, we were ready to come back to the campground and get in that cold creek.

We even found the "secret" beach that had access from the campground that we nicknamed "Seal Beach" because sadly, there was a dead seal that had washed up. We grilled up some hamburgers and hotdogs for dinner at the campfire kitchen and then had a small fire with s'mores. A full day--we slept much more soundly that night!

The next morning, we woke up early and took off so that we could make it to Pfeiffer Beach before it filled up. So glad that we did--it was beautiful and so relaxing after a busy day before. And then it was time to head back up North to the Bay. Big Sur is definitely as beautiful as everyone says that it is!
