Easter 2020

This year the tomb was empty, and so were the churches. Families didn't gather for a fancy Sunday dinner, and I certainly wasn't shopping for new Easter decor in my frantic grocery trips. This Easter, I was more focused on the real reason for the holiday then I ever have been in my whole life. The Holy Week leading up to Easter became a whole lot more meaningful. And I really thought of Sunday more as Resurrection Day than a day for the Easter bunny.

Our stake created a Youtube channel with beautiful messages/music for each day of the Holy Week leading up to Sunday. Nick and I watched each one, and gained insights and perspectives into what it would have been like for our Savior in his final days and hours on earth. Our ward put on a beautiful pre-recorded church service for Easter, which brought the Spirit into our home. We sang, "He, is Risen" with new fervor this year, as we know that because Christ rose from the tomb, we will all one day rise again. With all of the loss and heartache caused by COVID-19, we were reminded that Christ felt it all--all of our pain, suffering, sickness, and despair. If it feels like no one knows how you feel, He does.

We sang along with Handel, "Hallelujah." Nick and I did participate in some commercial Easter activities, as we checked out Bunny Day on Animal Crossing New Horizons and had an Easter Egg Hunt for each other. We opened up our Easter basket with treats I had gotten months (literally) before at the last time I went to the Dollar Store before I had a feeling that I needed to get all of this stuff early because I wouldn't be going back anytime soon. Something that made the egg hunt extra special this year is that (thanks to my mamma) we wrote compliments, favorite memories, and coupons to each other and put them inside of the eggs. We didn't have any fancy meat for dinner or any fancy desserts, so we had pulled pork, garlic bread, and salad.

Above all this Easter, I am grateful for my Savior and that this pandemic has sure helped me grow a whole lot closer to Him. #HearHim
