2018: A Year in Review

Yes, I realize that I am writing this post a month late. However, these are my favorite posts to write of the entire year, as I reflect on all of the incredible memories and blessings from the year before. So, without further ado, here's the best of 2018:

January:
  • Spending time in St. Augustine with Nick's family at the start of the new year
  • Sister Michaela Cahoon coming down from Utah for Nick's Endowment
  • Nick's Endowment in the Phoenix temple
  • We enjoyed celebrating at China Chili afterwards with friends
  • Nick studied for the MCAT



February

  • Friends, like Sharae and Dallis, visited from out of town
  • Nick and I were sealed in the Phoenix temple for time and all eternity <3 
  • We enjoyed celebrating at Chino Bandito afterwards with friends
  • We enjoyed a beautiful hike in Boyce Thompson Arboretum on President's Day with our friends Seth and Lexi
  • We had our beautiful temple wedding photos taken by Lexi at the Phoenix temple
  • We celebrated Valentine's Day with a delicious meal at Bucca de Beppo
  • We had a fun date doing archery for the first time 
  • Nick continued to study for the MCAT 






March: 
  • We visited Toledo, Ohio for a week over Spring Break (it snowed while we were there)
  • Enjoyed fun date nights and spending time with each other
  • Enjoyed watching the Easter Pageant with our ward in Mesa 
  • Nick studied for the MCAT in earnest, starting his 3 hour a day regiment 



April: 
  • Hosted the missionaries and several investigators for a session of Conference
  • Celebrated Easter with an Easter Egg Hunt and Conference spread
  • Went to the Mesa temple for Matt and Ian's endowment
  • The next morning, left on a crazy 24 trip to Los Angeles and San Diego for two endowment sessions
  • Celebrated my birthday by attending a Murder Mystery Dinner (where Nick got to participate)
  • Got couples massages and ate at the Cheesecake Factory for my birthday 
  • Attended our LAST ASU Graduate class
  • Arizona teachers went on a 7 day strike (we were off of school) 
  • Nick revs up his MCAT studying, using the strike time to cram for 6-8 hours daily


































May:
  • I represented both of us at our TFA Alumni Induction Ceremony
  • Nick took the MCAT...we would not find out his score for 1 month
  • We finished our second year of teaching!
  • We finished our commitment with Teach for America!
  • We graduated from ASU with M.Ed's in Secondary Education
  • Natalie and Sharae came to support us at our graduation
  • We saw Les Miserables in the ASU Gammage Theater






June:
  • We visited the Phoenix Zoo for the first time
  • Nick got back his MCAT score and got a 519 (in the 97% percentile) :)
  • We celebrated his AWESOME score at Harumi's Sushi
  • We drove to Amarillo, Texas for Jesse's wedding in the Lubbock, TX temple
  • We had fun wandering around downtown Amarillo and visiting Cadillac Ranch
  • We left on our "Back East Trip" and visited Washington D.C.
































July:
  • We started off the month in D.C. and headed to Philadelphia
  • We celebrated Independence Day in the birthplace of independence
  • We headed from Philly to New York City
  • I SAW HELLO, DOLLY ON BROADWAY!
  • We visited the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Empire State Building and the 9-11 Memorial Museum (among other cool things)
  • We celebrated our one year wedding anniversary in a small French cafe in SOHO and by going up the Top of the Rock
  • We left NYC for Boston, and had the time of our lives
  • Nick saw the Red Sox play in Fenway Park
  • We traveled from Boston to Palmyra, New York and visited the Sacred Grove, Hill Cumorah, and saw the Hill Cumorah pageant
  • We visited Niagara Falls and rode the Maid of the Mist
  • About a week after coming home, Nick's little brother John came to visit
  • We visited the Grand Canyon and Puerto Penasco, Mexico
  • Nick worked on medical school applications!






August:
  • We started our third year of teaching
  • We traveled to Provo, Utah for my friend Sharae's wedding
  • I dressed up like a Colonial woman and talked in a British accent all day to get my kiddos interested in the Quartering Act
  • Nick had his first medical school interview to U of A Phoenix

September:

  • We spent Labor Day weekend with our friends Sam and Kirsten in Flagstaff
  • We visited the Petrified Forest National Park
  • We visited Tucson, Arizona for a medical school interview at U of A Tucson and went to the Pima Air and Space Museum
  • We enjoyed time with our ward at our Ward Campout
  • We scored free tickets to an ASU Football game



October:

  • I had my first international flight!
  • We traveled to Paris, the City of Love and had an unforgettable experience
  • We traveled from Paris to London for three days and had so much fun!
  • We celebrated Nick's 25th birthday
  • Nick attended multiple medical school interviews

































November:

  • Nick was gone almost every single weekend for medical school interviews
  • We visited Ohio together and spent time with my parents for Nick's interview at Ohio State
  • We had a fun date day at the Hall of Flame Museum and a shooting range
  • We celebrated Thanksgiving by staying home and hiking South Mountain and hanging out together


December:
  • We were asked coordinate our Ward Christmas Party, theme Merry and Bright
  • We enjoyed spending time together after Nick finished his medical school interview season (although there would be one more to come in January!)
  • We opened up Christmas presents for each other one a day one week before we left for Christmas--so much fun!
  • We traveled to St. Augustine and to Miami to celebrate Christmas and New Years!
































What a beautiful year! This year was not without it's challenges--Nick put in a lot of hard work, stress, and effort studying for the MCAT, taking the MCAT, shadowing, applying for medical school, and going on medical school interviews, but he CRUSHED every step and we are so excited for what the Lord has planned for us next. We have been blessed with good health, prosperity, wonderful friends, and amazing travels and experiences that have opened our eyes to the amazing world around us.
