We took the Mega Bus from New York City to Boston, which was not quite as bumpy of a ride as our previous Mega Bus trips. Ugh, I was still a little car sick. We ubered over to our Air B n B and after having some difficulty getting in, we got settled and headed out around the neighborhood to find a place to eat. We were thrilled to find a Cuban restaraunt and enjoy our first Cuban food outside of Miami--it was pretty good, but still not the same as Islas Canarias!
We then headed to Fenway Park. When we were planning the trip, I asked Nick what was on the list of things that he wanted to do. He has always wanted to see a game in Fenway Park, one of the oldest baseball parks in the United States. We watched the Red Sox play and we had a great time! We also watched the Red Sox win (even better!)
On our first full day in Boston, we hit the ground running! We had our Uber drop us off at Boston Public Gardens and we headed past Boston Commons, the oldest park in the United States.
Our first stop was the Boston Massacre site and the Old State House Museum. I was hugely disappointed to hear that the memorial is not built on the actual site of the Massacre, but across the street, since Bank of America is built on top of it. We enjoyed the museum, where we watched a play about John Hancock and his wife.
We then headed to Faneuil Marketplace, the world famous market. WOW! If we're being totally honest, we ate there like 5x times during our two days in Boston. We loved it! We loved the stores, the clam chowder, the lobster rolls, the shrimp rolls, and of course, the baked goods--cookies, cakes, and ice cream. There are often live musicians playing outside, and so we would sit outside, listen to the music, and eat our yummy treats.
We then hopped on the trolley to see the U.S.S. Constitution, the oldest commissioned military war ship, the Queen of the harbor. She still fires her cannon every night to signal the lower of the flag and the closing of the harbor for the night. We had a great time touring the ship, the museum, and a warship used during WWII and the Battle of Okinawa. Pretty cool!
We then ate at Faeunil again, and went on a boat cruise around Boston Harbor! We had the best time learning about the buildings on Boston Harbor, seeing all of the buildings at night, and hearing the cannon fired on the U.S.S. Constitution.
Since this post is getting a little long, I am going to continue our last day in Boston in Post #2 coming your way soon :)
