Teach for America Training-Induction

So…what is Induction?

Induction is conducted by your Teach for America region whether before or after Institute. The Phoenix Institute took place the week before Institute where we participate in a series of informational sessions and team building. Honestly, I would sum up the week with food, friends, and fun.

During Induction, you don’t do a lot of intense work or lesson planning like you do in Institue. Induction is all about getting to know your region and the staff/other corps members that you will be working with for the next two years. We had delicious meals, visited the Phoenix zoo, appreciated in a scavenger hunt across the Phoenix area, got to visit our school sites to meet various staff and tour the campus, and visit the Heard Museum to learn more about the indigenous history of the Phoenix area.

The first few days we were grouped into family groups of about 10 people and 3 staff members.Toward the end of the week, we were able to spend more time with others. Induction was, overall, a motivating experience to help all of us mentally and emotionally prepare for the work that we were about to throw ourselves head first into Institute.
