For my first "solo" date of the semester, I visited the Norman Rockwell exhibit at the BYU Museum of Art. What a neat experience! This man truly chronicled some of the pivotal years of modern American history in a way that was relatable to the masses.
One of my favorite Norman Rockwell painting's is "The Problem We All Live With." Back in October, I had the opportunity to hear Ruby Bridges speak about her experiences as the first African American child to symbolically integrate America's schools. She has dedicated her life to spreading a message of tolerance and hope, acknowledging that while racial hatred and prejudices have not stopped, that there are good people all over the world that really are making a difference.
I must confess, I'm not a huge fan of ballet. The talent, the technique, the sets, the costuming were incredible, I just prefer lines I guess :D
For my third solo date, I tried out a local bakery after teaching Writing Lab at Project Read. Right across the street from the Provo Library, The Mighty Baker opened in October 2015. On Saturdays, the Bakery serves brioches, which honestly, I was totally ignorant about the existence of this French pastry until I walked in. I selected a chocolate chip brioche, filled with GIANT chocolate chips. It was a yummy treat, but honestly, not something I'm itching to go back and try again. They did have a raspberry cheesecake brioche that would be my second choice if I'm ever back again. In a nutshell, it was fun to try something new and become educated about the brioche.
Lastly, I attended the BYU Percussion Studios Evening of Percussion. It was so much fun listening to the steel band perform as well as the Gamalon group, performing a vocal percussion chant from Bali. I definitely miss playing percussion, and so it's always nice to be reminded of fun times playing the drums. Great job to my dear friend Christina playing the steel drum!

For my second solo date, I attended BYU's ballet production of Alice in Wonderland. I especially wanted to attend this performance because of my affinity for the play after I played the White Rabbit my senior year of high school :D
