Destination: Kirtland, Ohio

Kirtland/Hiram, Ohio, located just a half hour West of Cleveland, was the first place of gathering for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From 1831 to 1837, Kirtland was the home for these early Saints, where they built a temple majestic by today's standards, and absolutely glorious compared to the living conditions at the time of it's dedication: 1836. Today, the Community of Christ owns and operates the Kirtland temple, while the LDS church owns and operates the small cropping of LDS homes, a Visitor's Center, and the John Johnson/Morley farms located outside Kirtland.

Growing up about 2 and a half hours from Kirtland, I went there a lot. And I love it a lot. For me, Kirtland is almost like a second home. From the temple on the hill to the smell of the old buildings to the camp behind the John Johnson farm (where I went to Girl's Camp) to the friendly missionaries, I love it all. Below are a sampling of the many pictures that I've taken during my many visits to Kirtland, a city of gathering and glory.
