Foodies

Yesterday was a wonderful day. First, it was wonderful because I got to spend the whole day with Nick. Second, it was wonderful because it was productive. And third, it was wonderful because I ate a lot of really good food.

Nick and I have been dying to try one of the four restaurants owned by the same company located on Central Ave. in Phoenix: Joyride Taco, The Windsor, Postino's, and Federal Pizza. We had already had a delicious meal at Joyride Taco and decided that today, we'd go to Federal Pizza. It. was. delicious. We got 2 lunch specials, one half pizza and one half specialty salad. I went for the more traditional Pineapple Express pizza with a chicken panzanella salad, while Nick was a bit more adventurous and tried Casanova pizza with the Federal Chop salad. His pizza had dates on it, which I was super skeptical about, but it was delicious.

A co-worker of our at Teach for America had recommended The Churn across the street from the restaurants. Noted for it's delicious ice cream, I couldn't refuse trying. The shop is adorable--they sell all types of candy and it looks like a good ole' fashioned soda bar. I got a small child scoop of the Cookies and Mint ice cream and it was so refreshing and creamy. I definitely want to go back and try one of their milkshakes--their supposedly the best!

To celebrate our friends birthday, we went out to Macayo's Depot Cantina. Noted for their colorful decor and interesting architecture, we certainly saw the colorful decor, but not so much the interesting architecture. Nick and I shared a carne assada burrito. It was good, but Joyride definitely had the better Carne Asada. It's a great family restaurant, but not somewhere I'm dying to go back too anytime soon.

And finally, since I can never have enough ice cream, we got a Groupon deal for The Baked Bear (if you are dating and not using Groupon, shame on you). The Baked Bear boasts delicious ice cream sandwiches and individual pazzokis. Known for their Baked Bear ice cream (pictured below in blue), this place was packed when we arrived. We ordered a sandwich with the Baked Bear ice cream (cake batter flavored and fudge pieces) with a chocolate chip cookie and brownie. They hot press it for you, so the cookie is nice and melty. For only $3 dollars more, the Baked Bear definitely beat out Slicakables for me. It's worth the $3 dollars to get creamier, warm cookies.

Believe me, we don't do this every weekend or we'd be broke and packing on the pounds, but it was sure fun for one Saturday!
