Nick and Kaylyn's Proposal Story

Ladies on gentlemen, on February 25th, 2017, I became engaged to be married. And the story goes something like this.

I was really really hoping that Nick was planning proposing this weekend. At the beginning of the week, he had mentioned that we should go to the temple. I wholeheartedly concurred. On Thursday, a friend of ours asked if she and her husband could join us. I was all for it, but Nick seemed a little hesitant, saying that he really wanted to go to the temple with just the two of us. I obliged, and set another date with our friend.

Saturday morning, I was just anxious. The Spirit brought to my remembrance that the times in my life when I have thought about wedding proposals, the two ways that I dreamed of being proposed to were 1) in a hot air balloon or 2) at the temple. I called my mom to ask if Nick had called to ask for permission, and she said no. I was bummed. I had a wonderful morning with Natalie getting pedicures and at her baby shower. Little baby Cluff is due only in 3 weeks!! Afterwards, I journeyed to Phoenix to tour the Rosson House at the downtown Phoenix Heritage Square. We had a Groupon that was going to expire, so we had to get in. The tour was great, and the house was beautiful, but we much preferred the Riordan House in Flagstaff. Before the tour, I had opened up to Nick that was I really sad that he wasn't planning on proposing that day because I just really wanted to be engaged. I mentioned that we could buy a .25 cent ring at the grocery store or even a ring pop would do. He just laughed and said that we were going to have a good day regardless, that I needed to trust him, and that I needed to be patient.

After the Rosson House, we got ready to go to the temple. We drove out to the Phoenix LDS temple, where we performed baptisms for the dead. We were able to be baptized and confirmed for my great-great-grandparents (mothers side) which was a wonderful experience. After we exited the temple, Nick pulled me aside in front of the temple and told me that while he didn't have the ring, he did have a poem that he had been saving for me. I totally bought it. I selected a bench in front of the temple and began reading. Totally absorbed in the wonderful words that he had written, I hardly noticed when he reached in his suit pocket, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him.

What a magical moment that I will remember forever. I of course, said yes, and we hugged, laughed, and talked for a while, then asked one of the temple workers to take some pictures for us.

Afterwards, we called our families. Turned out my mom had lied to me :D Additionally, earlier that day, Nick had gone outside to call his dad about our "honeymoon." Turns out he had actually been talking to my dad asking for his blessing :D Nick had also been talking to Jesse several times--definitely had NO idea!

After the temple, we went to Donnovan's Steak and Chop. What a beautiful restaurant! I definitely had not had a meal that fancy in years. We were also definitely the youngest people in the restaurant :D We enjoyed some absolutely delicious, melt in your mouth filet mignon, some wonderful shrimp scampi, and the most delectable cheesecake. The restaurant even had a Congratulations sign on our table for us :)

I could not be happier. I am so eternally blessed to be engaged to my best friend. <3
