I have always been somewhat skeptical of Valentine's Day. You could even call me a hater. I determined that I would continue to have a disdain for the holiday, despite being with my wonderful boyfriend (now fiance). However, Nick was just too wonderful to keep the day from being anything other than extraordinary.
At school, I had each of my students write down at least one person or thing they loved/cared about on a stickie note and shared more about the history of Valentine's Day. Some of their responses were hilarious, like "I love myself and my dog" and "I love my refrigerator and my pillow." Typical 8th graders :D
Unfortunately, I had ASU class on Valentine's Day, so it wasn't until after class that I was able to see the beautiful day that Nick had prepared for me. I walked into his apartment to a vase full of beautiful yellow daisies (some of my favorite flowers) and a table set with my favorite meal: chicken parmesan. Nick had been working hard while I was in class to prepare such a delicious meal; definitely some of the best chicken parmesan I've ever had! After dinner, Nick presented me with the sweetest card and a mysterious bag. Inside the mysterious bag were the most beautiful diamond earrings from Zale's. I immediately ran to the bathroom afterwards to put them on haha
Now to preface, I knew that I was going to be getting something from Zale's for Valentines Day because of a little incident Nick and I had while cleaning his room. The weekend before Valentine's Day, I was helping Nick clean up his room, sorting through is closet, cleaning out old drawers, and organizing papers. In my quest to help, I opened the bottom drawer of his nightstand, only to find a large "Zales: The Galleria of Jewelry" bag right on top. Quickly, I closed the drawer and looked over at Nick, who thankfully had not noticed I opened the drawer. About 10 minutes later, Nick moved on to clean out the drawer, looked over at me with a horrified expression, and forbid me to open the drawer. I pressed him questions--why couldn't I open the drawer? Was my engagement ring in there (of course, playing innocent the whole time so that he wouldn't guess I knew.
The next evening, Nick and I went to a Phoenix Suns game. I accidentally let slip that I was excited to see what was in the bag. He looked very confused, and so I had to confess my discovery and my sin :D He again, reassured me that it was not my engagement ring, but my Valentine's Day present. And indeed, it was my Valentine's Day present: a beautiful set of diamond earrings :)
Now, you might be asking yourself: what did YOU do for Nick for Valentine's Day? Well, I bought him an electric shaver. And did the dishes. And gave him lots of kisses <3
