I'll Be Home for Christmas

I'm back in Toledo, Ohio! What a joy it is to be home, especially at this Christmas time of year. I have to say, I haven't been overly productive while at home, but have been enjoying my time watching movies, reading, and hanging out with friends. And after a successful first semester of college academically, I say that a well-deserved break is in order. After all, this will be my only true break from now until next December.

It truly amazes me how one can journey across almost the entire country in three hours. I was fortunate enough to have a window seat on the plane, and got to see the landscape change-from mountains to snow filled plains to flat, dry plains, and finally, the wet, slushy snow of Southern Michigan and Northwest Ohio. It's good to be home- to eat at all the places I grew up with, to spend time with friends and family, but importantly, to relax.

So far, I've watched 11 movies over break and have many more to go! I especially enjoyed watching some of the classics from my childhood, such as Polyanna and the American Girl Holiday movies. I've also been doing a lot of reading, and have especially enjoyed 2 of the 3 works I've read. The first is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I have read many a Holocaust novel, but this book definitely put a new spin on the sufferings of German citizens during the War. It was also told through a unique perspective, and I highly recommend it to anyone!

The other book was one I've read before Way to Be! by Gordon B. Hinckley. I grew up with President Hinckley's Be's, but it was a great refresher to go back and see how I was matching up. I definitely agree with President Hinckley- that I need to try to live my life a little better, do a litte more, pray a little harder, and be a little more optimistic. He says that there is no reason to fear because no matter how dismal the circumstances, everything will work out. I am greatly looking forward to my next semester @ BYU!
