Thanks, Thankfulness, and Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving has (and always will be) one of my favorite holidays. And honestly, it's not because of the food. Don't get me wrong, I love me some good turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and rolls, but what I really love is gathering around a table with family, friends, and feeling the warm sense of assurance that I have so much to be grateful for in my life.
This year, I had particularly a lot to be thankful for as I celebrated the two year anniversary of returning from my mission on Thanksgiving Day. I have had so much happen this past year--graduating from BYU, moving to Arizona, starting my first real job, and dating the most amazing man ever, Nick. Reflecting back on last Thanksgiving with the wonderful Clark family, I realized how truly, so much has happened and so much has changed since that snowy Thanksgiving up in Ogden, Utah. This Thanksgiving, I am especially grateful for CHANGE and how change brings great things to pass in my life.
On Monday before break, I had each of my students write at least one things that they were grateful for on a stickie note for all of my classes to see. I absolutely loved how many of my students put that they were grateful for their families (and particularly grateful to several students that wrote that they were grateful for their favorite teacher, Ms. Johnston :D)
This Thanksgiving, Nick and I wanted to be together. We shopped at Costco on Wednesday and Thursday, spent the day lounging around and enjoying time together before preparing our feast. We were blessed to have our friend and fellow TFAer, Beto, join with us. Best moment: when the oven stopped working and our ham took 2 hours instead of 45 minutes to cook. In the meantime, we watched the movie Rent, which, for whomever of you are familiar with this Broadway classic, definitely reminds one that they have a lot to be grateful for.
